PRODUCT AREAS INVESTIGATED IN BHEL

Strain gauge testsonon suspension bogies of 700HP and 1400Hp shunting locomotives for port applications.

Utilization of holography andl aser applications intesting of turbine components like turbine blades, turbine casings, condenser cover domes etc., 1978 to 1986.

Managerial support for introduction of wireless telemetry for strain and vibration Measurements on rotating equipment like large turbines (400 and 210MW),

Industrial fans like primary air fans, hydro-turbine lab tests etc.

Export-oriented job tests for structural integrity on condensers, de-aerators for Libya and Malta supplied by BHEL.

Structural Tests on power turbine condenser at Khakrapara Nuclear Power Station, Gujarat.

Salvage of equipment from scrapping through minor deviations like boiler Structures (at Wanakbori,Gujarat), pressure vessels(Maharashtra GasCracker) from scrapping through detailed design assessment andstructural tests.

Detailed assessmen for brittle ceramics, finite element analyses, string tests and strain gauge tests on electrical suspension insulators on overhead power lines 1) for prevention of failures and 2) for third party inspection.

Weibull analysis for assessing probabilistic failure of electrical insulators for Electro-static precipitators in large power stations.

Other significant reports: Valves of different sizes in boilers, Wellhead for oil industry, Strength of skytop masts for oil drilling platform, Condenser coverplate and so on.
