Prof. (Dr.) Yoginder S. Verma

Mission of life Dedicated and committed service to humanity suffused with selflessness and honesty Prof. (Dr.) Yoginder Singh Verma, Former Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala served Central University of Himachal Pradesh in various capacities namely - Dean, School of Business and Management Studies, Officer on Special Duty, Special Officer (Development) and Controller of Examinations.

In Himachal Pradesh University, Prof Verma was Founder Director, UGC- Human Resource Development Centre (earlier known as Academic Staff College) for 20 years (1989-2009). He also held the position of Director, Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies-UGC Centre of Excellence; Dean and Director, Business School; and Director, IAS Coaching Centre. He has an experience of 27 years in university administration Prof. Verma is known for a number of innovations brought out in HRDC and management of higher education in the country. Awards bestowed on him include Commerce & Management Shiromani Award, Life Time Award, Management Excellence Award, Man of the Year Award, Ford Foundation Award, etc. for his outstanding contribution in academics and educational administration. Prof Verma, selected by Union Public Service Commission as Colombo Plan Expert in Business Administration worked in Tribhuvan University, Nepal from 1983 to 1985. He is on the expert panels of National Commission on Academic Accreditation and Assessment, Saudi Arabia; National Assessment & Accreditation Council, Bangalore and Quality Assurance and Accreditation Division, University Grants Commission, Nepal. He has been associated with the NAAC in its assessment and accreditation process since 1999, assessed about 100 HEIs as chairman/member coordinator. He was associated in the assessed a number of universities/ colleges in Saudi Arabia ( King Saud University, Riyad and Tabuk University, Tabuk). Prof. Yoginder Verma served on a number of national level committees constituted by UGC, AICTE, UPSC and NAAC. Recently he had the honour of being member of UGC-Committees, which developed guidelines for Induction of Students, and guidelines for Induction and Mentorship of teachers in higher education. Currently, he is working on a UGC Committee which is designing guidelines for Institutional Development Plan for higher education institutions in pursuance to NEP-2020. He has ten books to his credit and more than 116 papers, published both in national and international level. Dr. Verma has produced seventeen Ph.D. students. As a Co-Principal Co-ordinator, Prof Yoginder Verma has completed a UGC sponsored major project, “e- PG Pathshala in the subject of Management” under which 600 e-modules have been produced. These modules are available on YouTube and INFLIBNET web-site. His areas of interest are Value-based Management, HRD, Organizational Development and Educational Management. He is on the Advisory Board of about half a dozen Journals. He has attended more than two dozen international and national level seminars/conferences and also presented keynote addresses and presided over more than five dozen workshops/seminars/conferences. He won Gold-medal in B.Com by standing first in Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla (1974). After doing his MBA in first division 1976, he started his professional career as management trainee in HPMIDC, a government corporation. Thereafter, he joined as Assistant Professor of Business Administration in Himachal Pradesh University in 1977, Shimla and became Professor in 1995. After retirement from active service of Central University, HP, Prof. Verma is actively engaged in academic activities of assessment, consultations, and delivering lectures as resource person in HEIs and HRDCs. Some of the areas include: Academic Leadership, NEP2020. NAAC, HRD in HEIs, Human Values, Student Centric teaching, Indian Traditional wisdom, Management of HEIs, etc.
