Prof. Amitava Datta

Professor, Department of Power Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

Dr. Amitava Datta is a Professor in the Department of Power Engineering and the Director of IQAC of Jadavpur University. He completed his graduate education in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University and his PhD from IIT Kharagpur. Dr. Datta is a recipient of Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship in Germany. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology and International Society of Energy, Environment and Sustainability.

Dr. Datta is an active researcher and has completed guidance of 16 PhD theses and several Masters theses. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed research papers in various International Journals and also presented and published several papers in National and International conferences. He has also authored one text book on Combustion.

Jadavpur University participated in NIRF ranking since 2017 and has remained among the top universities in every year with ranks between 5th to 8th in the category. 

In NIRF-2021 the University also participated in the Research category and secured a good score. Twenty-nine faculty members of the University feature in the list of world’s top 2% scientists as published in the research conducted by the Stanford University group.

The University completed three cycles of accreditation of NAAC and always secured the highest grade. During the last accreditation in 2014 the GPA was 3.68 in a scale of 4.0.
