Prof. Dr. S. Chandrashekar Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Adichunchanagiri University. Dr. Shetty has been Advisor, Chairperson / Member of various committees of State(s), National and International Government and Non-Governmental Organizations and also associated with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for the last two decades. Formerly, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research (A Deemed to be University), Kolar, Vice Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka, and Director, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Minto Ophthalmic Hospital, Bangalore. After getting his M.S. degree in Ophthalmology, he had a WHO Fellowship training in Vitreo- Retinal Surgery at Moorefield’s Eye Hospital, London and short training at Eye & Ear infirmary, Chicago, Illinois, Sydney Eye Hospital and Eye & Ear Infirmary, Melbourne, Australia. He has held teaching positions at Government Medical Colleges, Hubli, Mysore and Bangalore. He was the Chief Sight First Technical Advisor, Lions Clubs International Foundation, India & Sri Lanka from 1991-2020. As Technical Advisor, he was responsible for developing 125+ Eye Care projects worth 24 million US Dollars. Financial assistance was given for conducting more than 5 lakh Free Cataract Surgeries to the poorest of poor patients in South India and Srilanka. He has been the recipient of many Lions Clubs International Awards. The most important ones are Lions Clubs International President’s “Certificate of Appreciation Award”, LCIF Chairperson’s “Certificate of Appreciation Award” and “LCIF Helping Hands Award” for his contribution to Sight First “Lions’ Vision for All” in 30 years.


He was conferred with Honorary Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and Odessa State Medical State University, Ukraine for his contribution to the field of Medical Education and Community Eye Health. He has been recipient of many State, National and International Orations, Awards and Recognitions for his contributions to Higher Education (Medical Education) & Community Eye Health Services. Dr. Shetty has visited more than 20 Countries to attend World Health Organization, Lions Clubs International Foundation, International Agency for Prevention of Blindness and Common Wealth Foundation conferences and meetings. Represented University of Mysore in Shuttle Badminton (1964 & 1966) and represented Karnataka University in Teachers’ Tennis (1975).
